Follistatin
A protein studied for muscle growth via myostatin inhibition.
Overview
Follistatin is a naturally occurring protein that binds and neutralizes myostatin, the protein that limits muscle growth. Follistatin-344 is the full-length recombinant form popular in muscle research. It is technically a protein rather than a small peptide, but is a fixture of peptide-oriented research communities.
Dosing
Injection
- Starting dose
- 100 mcg
- Common dose
- 100–300 mcg
- Frequency
- 1–2× weekly
- Notes
- Protocol-dependent; cycles vary widely.
Reported research/reference doses for educational purposes only. Always verify against primary literature and applicable regulations. Not medical advice.
How it works
Follistatin binds myostatin and activins, blocking their signaling through the activin receptor. This removes a brake on muscle cell differentiation and growth, leading to increased muscle fiber size. It is studied for muscle wasting, sarcopenia, and athletic research.
Common research uses
- Muscle growth and hypertrophy research
- Myostatin inhibition studies
- Muscle wasting and sarcopenia research
- Recovery and tissue growth protocols
Considerations
Follistatin is a large protein, making reconstitution and handling more demanding than small peptides. Purity is critical. Long-term safety data are lacking; research use only.
