Glutathione
A tripeptide antioxidant studied for detox and cellular defense.
Overview
Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide (L-γ-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) and one of the body's most important antioxidants. It plays a central role in neutralizing free radicals, detoxifying harmful compounds, recycling other antioxidants, and supporting immune function.
Dosing
Injection
- Starting dose
- 600 mg
- Common dose
- 600–1200 mg
- Frequency
- 1–2× weekly
- Notes
- Typically given as an IV infusion in a clinic.
Oral
- Starting dose
- 250 mg
- Common dose
- 250–500 mg
- Frequency
- 1× daily
- Notes
- Liposomal forms improve absorption.
Reported research/reference doses for educational purposes only. Always verify against primary literature and applicable regulations. Not medical advice.
How it works
Glutathione directly scavenges reactive oxygen species and acts as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidases. It conjugates toxins for excretion, reduces oxidized vitamin C and E back to active forms, and helps maintain cellular redox balance.
Common research uses
- Antioxidant and oxidative stress support
- Detoxification research
- Immune function support
- Skin brightening (IV clinics)
Considerations
Oral absorption is poor; injectable and liposomal forms are more effective. Generally safe but should be used with medical supervision for injections.
